David Mendlen
Verbal consent script for Jarvis household text notifications from the toll-free number (888) 961-5202.
When this script is used
Every household member who receives these texts is enrolled in person by David Mendlen (sole proprietor), at the
household's own server, with the enrollment tool tools/enroll-sms-number.sh open on screen. He reads
the script below aloud, word for word, before the person answers anything. No number is enrolled without it.
The script, word for word
David Mendlen: "Before I add your number, I'm going to read you what you're agreeing to. These are text messages from Jarvis, the home assistant that runs my household, sent by me, David Mendlen, from the toll-free number 888-961-5202.
By adding your mobile number you agree to receive automated text notifications from Jarvis about the home: door and security alerts when the house looks empty, a daily house check, and notes Jarvis has for you. You can reply to act on them.
Message frequency varies, typically one to five messages a day. Message and data rates may apply.
You can reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe. Reply HELP for help, or email jarvisdave2001@gmail.com.
The terms and privacy policy are at davemen.github.io/jarvis-sms. Your mobile number is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Agreeing isn't a condition of anything; nothing is for sale.
Do you agree to receive these text messages? If you do, type your name, your mobile number, and the words I AGREE."
Household member: "Yes, I agree." (then types their name, their own number, and I AGREE at the prompt)
If the person says no, or types anything other than I AGREE, enrollment is cancelled and nothing is recorded.
How consent is recorded
- The tool writes a line to an audit log on the household server: UTC timestamp, the person's name, the number, and that the notice was read aloud. Only then is the number added to Jarvis's recipients.
- The number then receives one confirmation text: "Jarvis: you will now receive household notifications. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help."
- The log is kept for as long as the number is enrolled and after an opt-out, as evidence of both.
How to opt out afterwards
- Reply STOP (or CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE) to any message. It takes effect immediately and the number receives one final confirmation.
- Or tell David Mendlen in person or by email; he runs
tools/enroll-sms-number.sh --revoke, which removes the number and logs the revocation.
